Do you remember when you were younger, asking Father Christmas for a model toy car or airplane for Christmas? Perhaps you worked on a model ship or train set on the weekends in the back shed, or you competed with your friends and family to build the most high-tech model you could come up with? The joy of model construction never leaves you, although you may forget that replica Ferrari or model steam train as you move on to bigger things. Perhaps that's why model construction as an adult hobby is a rapidly expanding industry, with many shops springing up all over the country as more and more people want to get involved. Nowadays, building and playing with models isn't just for kids it's for everyone, young and old.
Getting involved (or reinvolved) with model construction isn't difficult. A quick trip to your local hobby store will have you well on your way to building your first model. Just as in the good old days, there are still do-it-yourself kits which come with everything you need (including paints, glues, and all the requisite parts including the motor and remote control). There is also still incredible variety just about every make and model of aircraft, automobile, train and water-craft has a model version. In fact, the only thing that has really changed is the technology: models are now faster, easier to manoeuvre, and may even come with solar panel and LED technology in-built.
